Why Is My Fridge Leaking?

fridge leak repair

A fridge is one of the most important appliances in a household as it keeps food from spoiling. So, when a fridge starts leaking, it can be a cause for concern for many homeowners. Here are some main causes and some easy ways to identify them!

Is Your Drain Line Clogged?

One of the most common causes of a leaking fridge is a clogged or blocked drain line. The drain line is responsible for carrying away condensation from the fridge, and if it becomes clogged, that condensation will have nowhere to go but out onto your floor. To clean a clogged or blocked drain line, start by unplugging your fridge and removing the contents of your unit. Next, locate the drain line. You can usually find your drain line at the back of your refrigerator. Once you’ve identified the drain line, carefully remove any gunk or debris that may be causing the blockage. Once you’ve cleared the blockage, reattach the drain line and turn your fridge back on.

Faulty Door Seal

Another common cause of fridge leaks is a faulty door seal. The door seal is responsible for keeping cold air in and warm air out, so if it’s not functioning properly, your fridge can leak cold air and fluids onto the floor. A good trick to test whether or not your door seal is the problem, place a piece of paper in front of the closed fridge door. If you can pull the paper out easily, then the door seal needs to be replaced and we’d highly recommend contacting us and getting our licenced and experienced technicians to assess and fix the problem.
